Way too many false new syndication posts

I’ve felt behind on reading most of my syndication feeds and the bad news is that I get tons of old news in the mast month or so that show up as new content in my reader. Some are new because the content actually changed (no “diff” in bloglines.com, if Google’s reader does that, I’ll probably move over), but for the vast majority I don’t see why they show up as new and it’s pretty annoying. I think to recall it only happened once to blogs.sun.com on a major software upgrade.
This is going to kill syndication or certainly slow down those trying to use this for business apps (one and only one delivery isn’t quite there). Does Atom help in any way?
